Founded in 2015, Umami set out to bring fresh, high-quality and affordable sushi and Asian-inspired cuisine to the Cape Peninsula. Situated at Imhoff Farm, it quickly became a favourite with locals and visitors alike, known for its consistently delicious, seasonal menu and relaxed atmosphere.
The front garden and new elevated deck offers a sunny, easy setting for long lunches, with a private inner courtyard perfect for windless, alfresco dinners, while the welcoming indoor space suits family meals, birthdays and date nights. Umami also caters for small private functions, bringing their signature sushi to special occasions.
Led by Jacqui, with 25 years in hospitality, and head chef Bo Zhang – one of the South’s most respected sushi chefs – the team pride themselves on skill, consistency and sourcing locally wherever possible. And it shows – they are a firm local favourite in Kommetjie and the greater Deep South, for both takeaway and sit-down sushi and other Asian delights.
Umami is full licenced, serving a selection of South African wines, beer (including White Rabbit by Shipwreck Brewery on tap), cocktails, spirits and more.
