Sounds of Kommetjie: Backabuddy, back a village!

Support a new project: a short film on the sounds and sights of Kommetjie – a Kommetjie Life and Fynbos Productions collaboration.

Sounds of Kommetjie: Backabuddy, back a village!

A short film in support of our local village culture, our exquisite natural backdrop and our resident artists and musicians – in partnership with Fynbos Productions.

We’re excited to announce a new project – filmed in and around Kommetjie, with local musicians, artists, surfers and more.

Sounds of Kommetjie backabuddy

Part soundscape, part music video, the film is a tribute to the sounds and sights of Kommetjie – from the roar of the ocean and performances of legendary local musicians… to everyday life and community moments, reflecting the creativity and connection to our beloved Kommetjie.

Featured artists: musicians Andre Geldenhuys, Anton Smuts, Derek Craig, Jonathan Stephen Simons and Mel Malisch; artists Chip Snaddon, Phil Hattingh and more!

Presented byKommetjie Life in collaboration withFynbos Productions

Sounds of Kommetjie is a short film capturing the natural rhythms, voices and atmosphere that make our village unique – from the ocean’s pulse, to the unique sounding things around us that we may walk by everyday, to the energy of local musicians.

The Kommetjie edition will feature sounds of “Kommetjie” – from the rhythmic waxing of surfboards and the wind through dried kelp, to the roar of the ocean and performances of legendary local musicians….

Alongside these sounds recorded and filmed, the film captures scenes of everyday life and community moments, reflecting the creativity and connection to our beloved Kommetjie.

We’re inviting you and local businesses to help fund the project in order to bring it to life!

Find the campaign on Backabuddy to support the project or get in touch for sponsorship opportunities.

Raising funds for Music in Community

10% of all funds raised will be donated to Music in Community (MIC), an incredible local non-profit organisation uplifting school students in our local communities, Ocean View and Masi, through music.

About the project

Created by Deep South filmmaker and sound explorer Josh Fynbos (Fynbos Productions), the project forms part of his celebrated Sounds Of series, initiated with Sounds of Kalk Bay (watch below) using found sounds and a mix of instruments, to build a piece of music inspired by the people, the ocean, and the soul of the place.

By supporting Sounds of Kommetjie, you become part of a creative collaboration that uplifts local voices, supports musicians and local artists, and gives back to the community.

Sponsors of the project will also receive valuable visibility across Kommetjie Life’s digital platforms and Fynbos Productions’ audience, while being part of a meaningful story that celebrates where we live.

We thank you in advance for the support!
